Sunday Update

Oh my! I sure didn't meant to take a day off from blogging after our amazing event, but sometimes life catches you off guard and you spend the day cleaning and taking care of a sick guy. Scott rarely gets sick (he has an incredible immune system, much unlike mine), so when told me he wasn't feeling too well after The Phoenix Style Collective launch party I figured he was just tired and didn't drink enough water that evening. Well, Saturday seem to prove us wrong and left us with a very sick Mr. Tea Talk (a silly nickname that Courtney calls him!). Today we're hoping he will be on the mend and can rest and relax after he gets off of work.

For me, I have a lot of catch up work to do and hope to make a LARGE dent in my school work. Sundays are for playing catch up anyways, right?

1,000 Times A Day

Sometimes it just hits me how beautiful life is. All of a sudden the clouds that have been circling around my head part way and I get this amazing picture of how great things really are. I try not to let those little clouds get the best of me (ya know, those ones that circle around you when you have mounting homework and a million odds and ends to do), but hey, sometimes they just do (I'm only human, right?). And then I have these amazing nights with friends that I know I will never forget and realize why didn't I just push those clouds away right in the beginning. Sometimes it just takes a sweet night with good people to put things into perspective for you.

It also really doesn't hurt that I have this really great guy on my team. We've been going strong for close to five and a half years now, and I couldn't imagine my life without him. He makes me smile and laugh at least a 1,000 times a day (I swear).

(I got chilly!)

A few mornings ago Scott and I spent some time on the ASU tempe campus. It was a crispy, chilly morning, and it felt amazing to walk around in the sun. On our way to one of the administrator buildings we stopped by one of my favorite buildings on campus. There's just so much charm in this little writing house, and I love that there is a time capsule buried right next to it. So much history in one little spot! I also really loved my outfit this day! Comfy Blowfish Shoes boots, and so many layers! My winter uniform!

Last night I watched Scott drink close to five or six of cups of coffee (way past his designated caffeine cut-off hour), and I couldn't help but laugh. I might have shared those cups with him, and also drank an iced americano as well. We had such a lovely night with friends and it really made me so thankful to live where I do. I swear, I adore Phoenix!

Last night we also put the finishing touches on The Phoenix Style Collective launch party/benefit for The GrowOP. I can't believe that it's tomorrow! We are going to have free cupcakes + snacks, free wine + beer, sweet music, a button making stand, AND amazing raffle prizes! Good Morning Fire Eater

Do you ever find yourself reverting back to all the music you listened to in high school. Well, it has been one of those weeks for me. I've been revisiting all of my old favorite albums, and remembering why I loved these bands so much. The last few days bands like The Early November, Brand New, Underoath, Cursive, Copeland, Stars, and Hellogoodbye (oh geez) have come up on my playlist. Lets just say, I've been taking a long walk through memory music lane (and fully enjoying it!).

I really have so many good memories tied to music. Growing up, music was such a huge part of my life. I remember never being separated from my cassette player (ah haha), CD player (oh my!), and ipod in later years. I will never forgot being about five years old and jamming out to Barry White on my cassette player (I thought I was so cool, haha).

In high school I went to A LOT of shows. Every week there seemed to be one, two, or sometimes even three shows that I just had to go to. Usually the shows were at local venues, and sometimes in random backyards. I know I've mentioned this before, but I've always envied those on the East Coast that got to experience basement shows. I swear, if I would have grown up there, that would have been my scene. I love a good, intimate show!

Nowadays, this is the type of outfit I would most likely wear to a show. Flat, comfy shoes have always been a must, but I kind of like getting a little dressed up for shows. In high school my show uniform was always a band t-shirt, jeans, and a pair of Vans. Funny how things change!

Today I have more grad school work to catch up on, and I also hope to get a little walk in with Scott. Tonight I'm hanging out with a few of my favorite friends in downtown Phoenix to discuss the final details of the Phoenix Style Collective launch party/benefit for The GrowOP. What I've Learned In Grad School So Far

Lately life has been the topic most on my mind. For the most part, the question lingering around is what will I do when I graduate? What do I really want to do? At this point, I'm feeling quite unsure. I have an idealistic career in mind that would involving blogging and doing public relations work for one of my favorite companies, or for a non-profit that is so near and dear to my heart. Most of my peers in grad school are already situated in their careers and are quite established in their lives. Sometimes thinking about this gets me down a bit because I'm definitely not at that point in my life, but I do always try and remember that my time will come and one day all that I'm wondering now will be revealed to me. It's just, I'm not very good at waiting.

Grad school has certainly been a blessing. It has given me more time to grow and think about my career path. I would be lying if I didn't say that one of the reasons I initially wanted to go to grad school was to prolong my time in school. When I graduated, I wasn't ready to face the real world yet, and I'm perfectly ok with that. What I've learned since starting grad school is that I truly need this extension of my education. What I'm learning is not something I would have ever seriously thought about in my every day life, but it's something that I've realized I'm totally in to and I'm fascinated by it. Ok, enough rambling. Sometimes I feel like I just need to get my ideas on grad school out before I go insane worrying about it. I know this is where I'm supposed to be, and I can't wait to see where I go next.

Speaking of grad school (I know, you just might be sick of hearing it by now), this is an outfit I wore to one of my evening classes last week. I usually always go for a comfy, and warm look when picking out something to wear to school (for now at least). Some of the rooms where I have class can get down right chilly sometimes, so I always like to be prepared with extra layers. I also really love wearing comfy shoes, and these Ugglebo Clogs definitely do the trick. I'm actually pretty obsessed with them, and see clogs continuing to be a staple in my wardrobe for seasons to come. What can I say, I love a good staple piece! Phoenix Friends

Meeting new friends is so wonderful, and this week I met the sweetest lady! Sarah Rhodes is the mastermind behind Arrow & Apple photography (you may have seen her amazing photographs of Ms. Elsie's wedding!) and a recent Phoenix transplant. Scott and I met up with her on Friday to get some coffee, and I have to say, I had the most lovely time! I can't wait to spend more time with Sarah and introduce her to a few of my favorite places in Phoenix.

Vintage & Plaid

It's Friday morning and I'm taking things slowly. I've been sipping my coffee and catching up on all of my favorite blogs. Scott is having a busy morning at his internship, and I'm so happy for him. I know I mentioned awhile back that he was having an internship this semester, but I don't think I said where. Well, he's interning with Anthropologie in one of their local visual design departments. I couldn't be more excited for him, and really hope he enjoys his time there. I can already tell that he's going to really enjoy doing this (he LOVES designing and creating). I can't wait to go in soon and see some of his work on display!

The other day I was reading this post on Calivintage talking about her favorite basics in her wardrobe. She mentioned how she really loves this vintage inspired purse that she carries around daily, and that a great alternative to it would be the new (and vintage) Coach classics. Well, being that I have a soft spot for Coach (especially vintage Coach) in my heart, I was inspired to go out on a mini adventure with Scott in search of a vintage Coach bag (Scott gave me one a few years ago that I absolutely cherish!). Well, much to our surprise we were able to score two vintage Coach bags (one in near mint condition) on major sale at a local thrift shop. I'm still kind of astounded at our luck, but I'm so happy and will cherish the bags for ever. I absolutely LOVE classic pieces!

I'm still loving my Jersy boots from Blowfish Shoes. To me, they're definitely a staple piece (easy to wear and mix with different looks), and right now they're on sale! If you're still looking for a great boot for winter, these are definitely the ones for you! I love my pair!

Today I'm hoping to get a few things done before Scott gets done at his internship (like school work and a few blog related things). I'm also hoping to go on a nice long walk today, and maybe even go see a movie. Scott and I both really want to see The Artist! Has anyone seen it yet?

Evening Class

Oh my, is it really Thursday already? This week feels like it has just flown by! Monday Scott and I had a nice day off, and the rest of the week seem to have just passed by in the blink of an eye. Now that I have evening classes my mornings are spent working on things I would usually do in the evening hours, like blogging and school work. As I mentioned yesterday, I'm still trying to get in a good groove with it all, but I guess there is no better way to work it all out than just jumping into it head first.

I wore this cozy ensemble to one of my recent evening classes. I've always been a fan of separates, and love layering similar colors and fun patterns. This skirt was a super score from a few years back (maybe cost me $6?), and has been a favorite piece of mine ever since.

Even though I'm not going to school down the street from Lola Coffee anymore, I still like to include it in my school schedule. Usually Scott and I stop there on the way to my school to pick up iced coffees. At this point in the afternoon I usually need a little pick-me-up, and stopping in there always brightens my spirits. I guess you could say a delicious iced coffee is my reward for going to school and getting my school work done. You can still have rewards in grad school, right?

500 Days Of Winter

This past weekend 500 Days of Summer was playing on Bravo and I just couldn't help but watch it. I don't often watch movies at home, but I just couldn't pass up the chance to watch such a darling film. Even though the plot line seems so screwed up, I'm honestly a huge fan. I've always been into movies and books where things don't quite turned out as planned (and had a darker side to them). Maybe all that Sylvia Plath I read during my time as undergraduate had more of an impact on myself that I thought (who am I kidding, of course it did! i will forever be affected by her amazing writing and thoughts).

I've really been loving these maryjanes from Blowfish Shoes. In my closet I feel like I lack in shoes that have substance. Ya know, the kind you can wear all day on long outings. Sure, I have moccasins, but my feet get tired from the almost inexistent padding they have. These Explodes on the other hand, have really great padding and I feel like I could wear them all day. In the past few years shoes with support and comfort have been a must for Scott, and I feel like I'm just now jumping on the band wagon. Any suggestions for shoes you love that are extra comfortable?

Today I hope to get a lot accomplish in terms of grad school work. I have a feeling this semester is going to be challenging, but isn't that what grad school is supposed to be? I feel like I'm still struggling to find my place in the program, and with my unconventional school schedule. I things always seem harder in the beginning, and I'm hoping to get in a good groove with everything soon. Is it weird that I desperately miss getting up really early, driving downtown, and sitting in class with my coffee in hand? Yep, maybe a little.

Arizona Winter

Yesterday I was reading a post on Calivintage and she mentioned how calm California winters can be. Well, this of course hit very close to home because I'm experiencing a very mild winter just a state away. Some mornings are bright, sunny, and a little icy, and others are grey, overcast, and slightly warm. I don't mind the back and forth temperatures, but I would like to feel like I'm getting some good use out of this year's winter coat (so far, it hasn't gotten much use).

I wore this outfit on a breakfast date with Scott a few mornings ago. I've been really wanting to style this maxi skirt up for a winter look. Since it was a fairly chilly morning I layered it with a thick pair of tights, and a few of my favorite layering pieces (a cardigan, infinity scarf, and a pair of boots). Come spring I think I want to swap the boots and tights for Saltwater sandals and the layered top for a flowy blouse. Ok, that's enough talk of spring. I'm truly a fall/winter girl (and sometimes never want the two seasons to end).

Today is for: heading back to class after a three-day weekend with Scott, more reading to catch up on for school, lots of coffee and tea, and cleaning up a recent vintage score!

Winter Happiness

It's no lie, I love a good coffee date to Lola Coffee in downtown Phoenix. Due to the Instagram meme for January that has been going around, I've been reading a lot about what makes people happy. Well, for me, some quality time spent with Scott, sipping delicious coffee, munching on delicious pastries, being surrounded by the most amazing light, and being in my favorite part of town really hits high up there on my happy list.

Iced coffee, hot americano, and a snickerdoodle whoopie pie!

Today Scott and I have a whole day to spend together and I'm hoping to make it a great one. There will be some time where I need to get a few readings done because I completely forgot about them this weekend (still getting into the groove of this semester), but we have plans for sipping morning iced americanos that he made himself, going on a walk on our new favorite path, and checking out a few thrift shops around town (we haven't been thrifting in forever, but I have something special in mind that I'm on the lookout for!).

Today I would like to drink coffee, catch up on the homework I need to finish up this weekend, and overall have a wonderful day. Today I'm also anxiously awaiting a few fun things in the mail (my issue of Kinfolk Magazine Volume 2, and my Starbucks gold member card!), and I'm hoping they make it here very soon. Central Coffee Mural

Looking at these barefoot photos gives me a chill to the bone. Just a few days ago it was sandal weather and I was frolicking about downtown Phoenix with a very warm sun on my back and mind. Today, well today there is an icy chill in the wind and my ensemble will have many more layers than the past few days. However, there is no denying that this was a lovely day. Scott and I spent time downtown and stopped at this hand cut/hand painted sign that always intrigues us as we drive by it in Phoenix. Neither of us are aware of the local artist who put it, but we both think it's great. Who doesn't love giant coffee cups?

Scott is wearing our new Diana F+ around his neck. We've been having a lot of fun taking photos and we're only hoping they turn out. Maybe today we will finish up the roll and send it off to be processed. I'm so excited to see how our photos worked out! I recently watched a video that Kyla Roma did on how she uses her Diana F+ and can't wait to try out a few of her tips and tricks.

These sandals were a Christmas gift from my dad. Growing up he always gifted me the craziest pairs of shoes (think purple, furry, and elf-like!), and his love for them hasn't really subsided. These are Mephisto sandals and apparently many people swear by them. They're a little chunky for my usual taste, but if they're going to be comfy on long adventures during the warm months, then I'm all for them. Plus, they're metallic!

I'm not quite sure what all Scott and I have planned for the day (most likely coffee and homework), but tonight we're having dinner with our friend Adrianna who owns Le Mode Accessories! I'm so excited to see her and can't wait! Happy Friday, sweet friends!

Primary Love

Sometimes you just need some primary colors in your life. Yesterday it was a slightly dreary day (ok, to Arizona standards), and I just needed a little pop of color in my life. My morning was filled with coffee and trying to get things pulled together for school. I was feeling overwhelmed, and needed a change of pace. It took me awhile to get out of my funk, but when I did I ended up in this outfit. Sometimes all it takes is a fun pair of shoes and a vintage head scarf (or whatever is floating your boat that day).

Since I feel like the Winter season is going to pass by so quickly, I'm wanting to savor it as much as I can. Scott and I skipped our annual trip up to Flagstaff because there wasn't any snow up there to play in, so I'm looking for a few ways to make up for it. I'm thinking winter traditions! Do any of you have any traditions/things you really love doing in the winter time (that doesn't involve snow pretty please)?

I'm lovvvving my Milan clogs from Ugglebo Clogs. They are comfy, and the prettiest shade of red. I'm thinking it would be fun to pair them with tights next time around. Ya know, for a more wintery feel!

Today I'm hoping to catch up on some homework (I already feel like I'm falling behind!), drinking lots of coffee (I may or may not have been up for hours in the middle of the night watching Diner's, Drive-Ins, and Dives), and obsessing over all the little projects I currently have going or want to start. I've been so inspired to get back into using Scott and I's film cameras, as well as to knit something pretty before winter is out, and to make a fun scrapbook (have you seen Elsie's recent post about a super simple scrapbook? SO inspirational!). Here's to hoping for a lovely day!

Breakfast Date at Matt's Big Breakfast

As you may know, going out to breakfast is one of my favorite things to do. A few mornings ago Scott and I found ourselves in downtown Phoenix very early, so we just decided to go to Matt's Big Breakfast because we knew we would be able to get in fairly quickly (we've waiting more than an hour to get in before!). It was an absolutely beautiful morning, and I just wanted to commit every inch of it to memory.

I had my usual, the cheese omelet with home fries and toast (with coffee, of course).

Scott had the special with toast and his favorite hashbrowns.

Early Spring

The unseasonably warm weather we've been having around here has been making me think about spring, and gearing toward more spring oriented outfits. I'm really not ready to fully commit to a spring wardrobe (fall/winter weather much more suits my favorite kinds of outfits), but indulging in a little light weather clothing for a day is quite alright with me.

For Christmas Scott gave me this amazing silk skirt with flamingos on it. The fabric is quite amazing, and I adore the pleats. I was just too excited to wait until spring to wear it, so I figured I could pull it off on a warm, semi-sunny day. I've never owned a statement piece quite like it, and it was so thoughtful of Scott to get it for me. He really has an eye for unique pieces, and I so love him for that.

Scott has been wearing this sweater religiously lately. It's extra cozy, and suits his personality. Do you ever wear something that just feels like you? I'm positive this is how Scott feels about this sweater. It has his name written all over it!

Oh yes, there are elbow patches on it! Just his style!

In other news, we've been really enjoying being outside lately. Lots of walks happening around here and dreaming up what the semester will hold for us. I've come to realize that I really do feel much better each day when I get out and walk around in the fresh air and sunshine. I see many, many walks in our near future.

Today I have some reading for class to finish up, and some picking up to do. Tonight I have class at 5:40 p.m. and I'm really hoping it goes well. My class goes until 8:30 p.m., so I think I'm going to need an evening coffee. Going to class late has become my excuse for drinking coffee so late. I swear, I need it though!

Winter Mornings

Fall and Winter mornings are something I cherish. I adore early mornings with the sun barely peaking in through the window, sipping hot coffee, knitting and/or reading blogs. Summer mornings never feel quite the same, so while we have winter mornings I try and fully take them in. Scott is also very fond of early mornings (he does get up for work at 4 a.m. on Saturdays, but I would say that he doesn't quite enjoy those mornings as much), so when we have the chance to spend them together doing something special, we jump at the opportunity.

On this particular morning we were in downtown Phoenix early. A breakfast date was in order, a walk around downtown, and a stop at our favorite coffee shop. It was a beautiful, slightly chilling morning and I was just happy to be there.

For Christmas my sweet dad got me a Pandora bracelet. I never thought of myself being a fan of them, but now that I own one I kind of like the idea. There are so many neat silver charms out there, and I'm excited to add a few to my bracelet. Anyone else have a Pandora bracelet or a similar one?

To top of the morning, we took these photos in my favorite spot in downtown Phoenix. When they built this park during my first few semesters at ASU, I thought it seemed like a strange concept. After the park was finished I found sanction in it, and would often spent my time in between classes lounging in the sun, sipping iced coffee from the coffee shop that sits on the park area. I desperately miss having this so accessible to me, so it's nice to have time to go visit my favorite spot every once and awhile. Until next time.

First Day, Spring 2012

This past Thursday Scott and I had our first day of the Spring 2012 semester. We each had one class, and were both wiped out at the end of the day (the stress building up to my evening class was silly, but it always gets the best of me). I have a feeling this semester will be a bit of a challenge, but I'm ready to take it on. My classes seem interesting, and I really like the only professor I've met so far (her British accent makes everything sound better). Only a year and a half until we graduate, and I already can't wait! Here's to a great semester together!

Simple Winter

So far this winter my layers seem to have come to a minimum. The weather has been warm, and circling around 80 degrees somedays. I'm hoping that cool weather is still to come (January and February are always the coldest months here), and that I will get a little more time with my layers and boots. I'm not ready for the Arizona heat!

I really liked this outfit. The whole ensemble just felt like me. If you were to ask me what my default outfit is, this would be it. I just can't deny my love for denim, a few layers, and a pretty bracelet.

Now that the new year and new semester is upon us, I hope it brings me a bit more of a structured schedule. Last semester I found myself struggling to keep any kind of schedule, but this semester I vow to keep one for myself. I work so much better when I'm on a schedule, and hope to keep one that will allow me to balance school, blogging, time with Scott and friends, emails, and hopefully a bit of reading.

Lola Winter Date

Like I mentioned yesterday, I really want to be better at taking photos of all the little moments Scott and I have in our daily life. A few mornings ago we went on a little winter date to Lola Coffee and enjoyed some quiet tim together. The morning sun was leaking in through their large windows and I felt like we were no where near Phoenix, and more closely to New York City enjoying some yummy coffee in a quaint coffee shop. One day, one day!

Light Winter

And today it ends, Winter Break that is. Today is our last day to have some kind of last hooray before the school work starts piling up. I'm hoping for a really successful semester. Grad school has proved to be very different than my undergraduate experience, but a true blessing. I'm thankful that at the age of 25 I will have a Master's degree under my belt, and hope to have a few amazing things figured out by then. I just know the future is going to be great!

Scott and I have been really enjoying our new lens. Part of my new year's goals was to get back on the Flickr train (I used to be obsessed), and this lens was just what I needed to spark the idea in me that we should go on more walks and photograph the beauty around us. Before we started taking outfit photos we used to take a lot of landscape and lifestyle photos and to be honest, I kind of miss that. Here's to even more photos in the new year!

Jane By Design Style Challenge #7

I'm so excited to announce that I've made it to round #7 of the Jane By Design Style Challenge! Major thanks to all of you sweet readers for helping me make to the end of the interview process! I am SO incredibly excited to have made it to the very end, but there is still work to be done and I'm here to get the job done!

So for challenge #7 Gray herself sent me an email telling me that I absolutely had to be at the premeire tonight (watched it with Scott, twice!) and had to take careful notes on what everyone was wearing because Gray says that at the end of the day, what people are wearing is our business. I was told I had to prove that I have keen powers of observation, and that I must be on top of everything going on. So for my final challenge I was told to choose one person I observed and write a "get the look" blog post! So who did I choose you're wondering? Well, Jane more than impressed with her overall amazing style, but one of her looks really caught my eye. She is also the new girl, and the one that everyone has their eye on, so I chose Jane and an outfit she wore during a day at the office, and out to a restaurant/bar afterward.

Now, I couldn't find a full photo of the outfit, but it was just too good to not do a "get the look" post because of it. Jane mixed a very mens inspired, button-up shirt (similar to the one we were asked to style up in a previous challenge) with a oversized, faux diamond/vintage inspired necklace, a colorful bandage style skirt, black tights, and some kind of amazing shoe (shoes were not entirely seen but they looked like a light pair of pumps).

So to recreate this look I searched around a few online shops and pulled together garments that would work perfectly to re-create this look. Jane's most stand-out piece was the bandage skirt she was wearing, so I knew I had to pick a showstopper for that one! I'm absolutely loving this look and would completely rock it myself!

Jane By Design Style Challenge #6

I'm so excited to announce that I've made it to round #6 of the Jane By Design Style Challenge! Yahoo! Major thanks to all of you sweet readers for helping me make it this far! Again, the challenges have been a lot of fun, I'm so excited to be continuing on in the interview process!

So for challenge #6 Jane, Gray's assistant, sent me an email asking what does the future hold for the world of fashion. She said it will depend on people like myself, and that the ability to be inspired by everyday life is an essential skill needed in order to succeed. She also so that the ability to translate inspiration into something fresh, and unexpected that could take the fashion world by storm is a rare gift, and that for this challenge I needed to take a long hard look at who I am and the world I'm surrounded by for inspiration.

Ultimately, my challenge was to get into my Jane By Design truck and pull out the bags of pretzels in it. I was then told to get inspired and create something using the pretzels that will amaze Jane and Gray! So what did I do? I made jewelry with it!

Two main inspirations in my daily life are nature, and amazing bloggers. I can be walking around outside and just instantly become in awe of my surroundings. Sometimes I can't even believe how beautiful this amazing world is that we live in, and it often takes my breathe away. I often pick up twigs, leaves, and other little gems that I come across and dream up pretty things I can make with them. Lately I've noticed a huge trend in nature inspired jewelry, and I was more than excited to transfer the inspiration I've been receiving from it into a few amazing pieces of pretzel jewelry.

I was inspired by mismatched sized crystals with this one. I added the white beads for a natural pop color!

With this ring, I was really inspired by twigs wrapped together. Multiple finger rings have been so on trend lately too!

This sweet little pretzel reminded me of a peace sign. Peace and nature always go hand-in-hand!

I'm completely obsessed with this panel piece as well! I loved the honeycomb look of these pretzels, and thought it would be fun to make a statement piece using them. Again, the shaped reminded me so much of nature, and also of the honeycomb jewelry trend I've been seeing popping up lately. One of my favorite jewelry designers, Stone & Honey, has a line of honeycomb inspired necklaces, and her line immediately came to mind upon seeing the shape of these pretzels.

I also made a honeycomb style bracelet to complement the necklace. With this one, I'm really loving the salt flecks that add a little bit of natural detail to the bracelet, and, of course, the natural, wooden look of the pretzels. If pretzels weren't so fragile, I could wear this bracelet every day!

Much of this jewelry was also inspired by the gorgeous pieces that a few of my favorite bloggers/jewelry makers create. Moorea Seal, Kate Miss, and The Blue Balloon all make these lovely, nature inspired pieces. For a few years now they have all been so inspirational to myself with blogging and other aspects in life (I'm so thankful for all of their little corners of the interweb!), so after I had decided to create jewelry using the pretzels, all three of their amazing shops immediately came to mind.

I'm loving the silver and white detail on this last piece. The overall looks reminds me of these charms I used to make out of wooden sticks when I was younger. Nature and I have always been friends, and I feel like it's going to continue making a huge influence in the fashion world throughout the new year and well into the next! I'm so happy with how this collection of pretzel jewelry came out, and I'm excited to actually make a few of these pieces out of more sustainable materials!

So This Is The New Year

and I don't feel any different." Ok, maybe I do feel slightly different, but that could be due to all of the inspirational blog posts I've been reading lately and the hopes I have for the new year. I have a really wonderful feeling about this year, and I'm hoping for great things.

A few mornings ago Scott and I spent some time in downtown Phoenix. It was a gorgeous morning, and the sun just beckoned to be photographed in. For Christmas I received the most amazing lens, so it felt like the perfect time to give it a whirl. I'm pretty much obsessed with it already, and can't wait to take more photos with it in the new year.

These cozy sweater knee-highs that Scott gave me for Christmas were perfect for the chilly morning we had. The weather has been unseasonably warm the past few days (I'm talking 80 degrees yesterday), so I'm definitely trying to soak in the cold weather while I can.

Today Scott and I are soaking in our last bit of winter break. It went by terribly too quickly, and I'm definitely not ready for it to end. However, I'm ready to start another semester of Grad school and get this show on the road! 2012 is going to be a great year and I'm ready to see what it holds.

The New Year

Every year around this time I find myself contemplating what my goals should be for the new year. I usually write out a lengthy list, and often left it fall to the way side. Throughout the year, a handful of the goals are met (I usually write them with goals I know are definitely possible, and not super unrealistic), but I feel like this is not enough. My hope for 2012 is to meet small, reachable goals that will allow me to approve upon myself. Sometimes I feel I get so caught up in the rush of school, staying up-to-date with everything I'm involved (something I am more than thankful for each and every day), and worry about so many things that are out of my control. In the new year I would love to worry a little less (ok, maybe a lot, but we'll see), focus more on who I am becoming as an adult, cherish each and every moment I get to spend with Scott, and make this year one to remember.

Other small goals:

-take photographs just to take them

-write more letters

-read more

-do more freelance work

-wake up earlier

-not let a bad morning ruin my entire day

-use our film cameras more

-bring my new found healthy eating routine into and all the way through the new year

-make many, many more happy memories

-update my Flickr account at least every other day

Jane By Design Style Challenge #5

I'm so excited to announce that I've made it to round #5 of the Jane By Design Style Challenge! Yahoo! Thanks to all of you sweet readers for helping me make it this far! Again, the challenges have been a lot of fun, I'm so excited to be continuing on in the interview process!

So for challenge #5 Jane, Gray's assistant, told me about how her life is a constant juggling act. Sometimes she doesn't even have time to change her outfit between her daily work schedule, and a high fashion event. Jane said it's so important to be able to change up your outfit in a snap, so my next challenge was centered on this idea. I was told to get into my Jane By Design trunk and pull out the plain, white button-shirt. I was then told to style it up on my dress form for a look fit for a day at the office, and then style up the same shirt for a dressy cocktail party.

For my daytime, work outfit I styled up the classic white shirt with a black cardigan, and a black and grey knee-length skirt. Black, white, and grey is a classic combo (my go-to color scheme in fact), and I thought the cardigan and skirt felt very appropriate for a day at the office.

I added my favorite Tiffany's necklace, and a pearl bracelet with a silver heart hanging from it. I feel both pieces of jewelry are absolutely timeless, and add something special to the outfit.

To round off the outfit I added a classic, black Coach purse, and my favorite pair of black flats. Each garment is comfortable enough to wear during a long day at the office (no heels and chunky jewelry to wear you down while you're running around), but each piece is also classic, and oh so chic. You can never go wrong with a little Coco Chanel inspiration!

For my cocktail party ensemble I decided to trade the black cardigan in for a black, moto-style, faux leather jacket, and swapped out the skirt for a shorter, more flowy skirt with a little bit of shimmer to it!

I also switched out the day-time jewelry for a sweet, silver owl locket. This piece is a little bit chunkier, and brings a hot trend to the outfit. Owls are so in this season, and I love the idea of bringing a little bit of nature into an outfit.

I rounded off the cocktail attire outfit with a mini-wedge, peep toe shoe, and also a brown leather clutch. The clutch was made from recycled, vintage materials and also has a little bit of shimmer on it (similar to the shimmer on the skirt). To me, the clutch is the statement piece that I feel every dressy outfit needs. It also has a great story behind it, and is something I'm more than proud to show off (it can also fit easily into my day-time bag, bonus!).

What I'm Trying To Say

Winter break has been more lovely than I could have ever expected. Scott and I both got great news about our Fall semester grades, we went on an awesome trip to Las Vegas, had fun shopping around and enjoying the holiday cheer, and had an amazing Christmas. What I'm trying to say is that I'm so thankful for our sweet life together, and I can't wait to see what the future holds for us!

The title of my blog post today might have been inspired by something else. For years I've said that if I could own one record, it would be Stars' Set Yourself On Fire. Since high school I've been obsessed with the band, and we even saw them once a few years ago in downtown Phoenix. Their records are fairly rare, and Set Yourself On Fire is even more rare than all of their other ones. Finding a US or even European of it seemed almost impossible, but I've been letting my heart wish away for years now.

So for Christmas the sweetest man in the world track down a copy of the European edition of Stars' Set Yourself On Fire on ebay and purchased it as a present for me! It arrived all the way from Germany last night, and I have to say, my heart couldn't be any more full. I'm so thankful for having such a kind, loving man in my life. Thank you John Scott, I will cherish it forever.

Today Scott and I have to get a few things ready for some scholarships we are applying to. I also have some cleaning and de-cluttering to do, as well as a few fun blog related things. Tonight we're going to an annual holiday party that we always look so much forward to!

Jane By Design Style Challenge #4

I'm so excited to announce that I've made it to round #4 of the Jane By Design Style Challenge! Thanks to all of you sweet Tea Talk readers for helping me get this far! I've been having so much fun with these challenges, and I'm so excited to be continuing on in the interview process!

So for Challenge #4 we were asked to open up our Jane By Design trunks and pull out the holiday sweater inside. Upon first glance, this sweater looks truly like a "grandma sweater", but we were asked use our creative eye and envision something spectacular being created from it! Then we were asked to put our vision into action and create something that could be the next hot holiday trend for 2012.

After staring at the sweater for a bit, I decided I wanted to use my current favorite winter trend and combine it with some holiday cheer. The result: the holiday tunnel scarf was born!

Turning this "grandma sweater" into a stylish, and cozy holiday tunnel scarf was quite a simple process. Part of our challenge is to give you a step-by-step description of how I made my new holiday trend creation! All you need is a pair of scissors, black thread (or whichever color matches your sweater), a needle, and a pretty ribbon!

Step 1: Lay the sweater flat and cut straight across, just below the armpit so you have a fairly straight line all the way through the top.

Step 2: Fold over and hem the top part of the sweater all the way around where you made your cut. This prevents fraying, and will give your scarf a nice roundness to it.

Step 3. Starting from the bottom, sew the button section of the sweater all the way to the top. This will prevent the sweater from opening where it would usually unbutton.

Step 4: Take your ribbon and tie it around the back section of your new tunnel scarf. This will keep your scarf pinched together so it stays rolled up nicely, and will add a little extra sweet detail. I chose red to add a pop of color to my tunnel scarf!

And you did it! Super simply, and very fashion forward! Now you can rock some holiday cheer while still looking very chic! If you're feeling adventurous, you can also drape the scarf around your shoulders for a more covered, cape look. It would work perfect if you had a sleeveless top that you wanted to layer up for the holidays!

Wait! I have one more granny chic trick up my sleeve! I'm kind of obsessed with coffee cozies (it seems like I always have a hot coffee in my hand during the winter months), so I though it would be fun to take some of the leftover fabric from my sweater and make a holiday coffee cozy for my warm drink!

The process for making this cute, coffee cozy is very simple as well. All you need is leftover fabric (I used the shoulder section from my sweater), and a needle and thread.

Step 1: Turn fabric inside out and sew the two open edges together.

Step 2: Turn your new cozy inside out.

Step 3: Go out and get a hot drink and enjoy your new holiday coffee cozy!

And there you have it! The two hottest holiday trends for 2012! I'm absolutely loving the holiday tunnel scarf and holiday coffee cozy, and plan on keeping them around until Scott finally convinces me it's time to put away the Christmas decor. Rest assured though, you will definitely be seeing both of theses as soon as the holidays come around in 2012! I already can't wait!

Holiday Spirit

I had a really wonderful Christmas, and I'm so thankful for the amazing people in my life. I hope you all had a lovely day as well! I ate way too many Christmas treats, and saw Young Adult (which was strangely awesome). It really was a lovely holiday, and I'm a bit sad to see it go.

So to stay in the holiday spirit (we still have new year's!), I'm still mixing red and green. This cozy look is one of my favorites. I just love layering this jean vest with a cozy sweater, and the red scarf is a new fav. Like I said, this winter is all about being cozy!

Today Scott and I are going to brave the mall for a few exchanges, and also to check out some holiday decor. Growing up it was a tradition to get up really early with my mom and grandma and head out to Dillards to pick up pretty Christmas decorations at an amazing price. At one point my mom decided we had too many decorations (I don't believe in such a thing!), so we haven't gone in a few years, but this year I have my eye on two special stockings that I think I need for next year (if they're the right price, of course!).

Scott and I have around a week left of holiday vacation (it goes by way too fast!) and we want to make the best of it! I'm thinking a few trips to downtown Phoenix are in order, along with a few fun dates, and a trip to see the snow! Every year we head up north to get a full-on winter experience. We always freeze our bums off, but getting to have a real winter experience is SO worth it. Last winter I spent five or so days in Vail, Colorado and got my fill of the snow, but this year I'm just dying to get to the snow!

December has been a very magical month. Scott and I have celebrated the holiday spirit in full force, and have been more than enjoying our time off from school. Jane By Design Style Challenge #3

I'm so excited to announce that I've made it to round #3 of the Jane By Design Style Challenge! Woohoo! Thank you all for all of your great support through this so far! I'm so excited to be continuing on in the interview process!

So for Challenge #3 we were told to go to our closet and pick out the purse that best represents who we are as people. After reading this I immediately knew which purse I wanted to feature, a vintage, 1970's Coach purse that Scott gave to me as a gift a few years ago.

The vintage bag was a thrift store purchase that I had actually showed to Scott while out on one of our many thrifting adventures. When I saw it sitting in the case I was certain it was a real Coach purse, and it just screamed my style. However, I opted to pass it up and leave it behind at the thrift store that day, keeping it forever in the back of my mind (of course). Much to my surprise, a few days later Scott surprised me with the amazing purse for our anniversary. It was truly meant to be!

Since then I have grown to love this vintage bag even more. I love the perfect size, the crossbody style, the classic look, the perfect color of the leather, the gold toned metal, and the sweet, worn in spots that cover the bag (I feel these just show even more how much it is loved, and how long it has withstood the ever-changing styles over the years). I love the raw leather inside as well, and the handle on the top (for those days that you just want to carry it around). If I were a purse, I would most definitely be this one. Classic, well loved, comfortable, a little rugged on the inside, with a pinch of everlasting style, and the idea that fate is never out of the question (I did find its way to me twice, didn't it?). This is how I would describe this purse in a few key terms, and coincidently, this is exactly how I would describe the very essence of who I am as well.

To me, a great bag can speak miles when it comes to style. I was very fortunate to have learned at an early age that a classic bag is a very important staple that every woman should have in their closet. A great bag can turn around the entire look of an outfit, and make you feel like a million bucks. Stylish bags don't have to be insanely expensive, but they are a great item to invest in. So if you find a timeless bag that you know will last, and withstand any and all fashion trends that come our way, my suggestion is to save up your pennies and take the plunge in purchasing a timeless bag. I promise, you won't be disappointed when you do!

Christmas Date: The Coffee Shop

Before Scott and left on our trip to Las Vegas, we went on a breakfast date to The Coffee Shop in Gilbert. It was a beautiful, holiday break morning, so we couldn't pass up getting some yummy breakfast and coffee at one of our favorite places.

We always feel so welcome at The Coffee Shop, and it was a real treat to have the owner, Jessica Cuff, welcome us and fill us in on what pastries were hot out of the oven. Scott and I both very much appreciate her kindness, and it definitely made our morning that much more sweeter. We're so thankful to have such wonderful people in this community!

This cinnamon scone was hot and delicious! We pretty much finished it up before our breakfast arrived!

Scott had a chorizo burrito, and I had the veggie scramble. Both were so delicious and very filling! Perfect for a busy day full of holiday cheer!

Christmas is almost here! We still have so many little things we want to fill in before Christmas morning, but I think we're going to have a lot of fun having jam packed days full of holiday cheer. First though, I'm headed off to the doctor to get some medicines for my ears. Vegas (and a family cold) has left me with an unbalanced equilibrium (I'm no rookie to this, sadly) and pain in my ears. Hoping the doctor can help me out and clear up all of this before Christmas!

Vegas Style

Scott and I just returned home from a whirlwind trip to Las Vegas, Nevada. It was Scott's very first time visiting Vegas, and I was so excited to experience all of the magic that is the strip with him. Since we're not the drinking or gambling type, we spent our days walking around the strip sipping hot coffees, munching on yummy treats, seeing shows, and enjoying our holiday vacation together.

The weather in Las Vegas was pretty similar to ours in Phoenix, but along the strip it felt extra chilly. Since we were doing so much walking in and out of hotels, we found it only appropriate to layer up. I'm always colder than Scott is, so my layers exceeded his, but we were still both so cozy and were ready for an afternoon of exploring.

During our trip, hot coffees were in abundance. If we weren't in need of a drink to warm us up, we were needing an extra caffeine kick to boost us up and keep us going through the night. Since Illy espresso was everywhere in Vegas, it was usually what were drinking. When I was in Europe a few years ago Illy was everywhere as well and quickly became my favorite!

I picked up this cute skinny tie for Scott a few weeks ago. I originally was going to give it to him for Christmas, but I thought he might like to wear it while we were in Vegas. He really likes it and may now be on a tie kick! I am definitely not opposed to this idea!

A sweet couple shot this photo of the two of us. We were standing on this walking overpass where it's common to take photos, so this man asked us if we wanted a photo together. Scott and I may have gotten pushed into take photos of this foreign couple for a good five minutes. It was actually kind of funny.

Now that we're back home we have a few fun holiday adventures to pack in, and then to celebrate Christmas with our family and friends! We very much enjoyed our holiday trip to Las Vegas, and I promise to share a few more photos of our adventures!

Jane By Design Style Challenge #2

I'm so excited to announce that I've made it to round #2 of the Jane By Design Style Challenge! Yahoo! Thanks for all of your great support through this so far! I'm so excited to be continuing on in the interview process!

So for challenge #2 we were asked to take a plain, white t-shirt and create a design on it inspired by our personal fashion icon, using found items from our home or office. After reading the instructions the sweet face of the actress Michelle Williams popped into my head. I have adored her style for years now, and love how she always looks so effortlessly chic. I am sure I would wear just about every single garment in her closet (wouldn't it be amazing to have free reign on her closet? I just might pass out from excitement the second I stepped foot into it!).

I also adore how her style has truly two sides to it, a very girly, feminine side, and then a very minimalism, masculine side to it. I love that one day you can see a photo of her toting her sweet little girl around (has anyone seen how chic little Matilda always looks? she definitely has her momma's beauty and sense of style) in a sweet floral dress, and the next day she can look so chic wearing a pair of skinny jeans, pretty flats, and a great menswear inspired button-up shirt (which compliments her new short do so well). It seems like she just knows exactly what to wear for every occasion (all of her red carpet looks are winners in my book), and also knows how to keep an outfit very casual, but so stylish at the same time. If there was one thing I wish I could do well with my personal style, it would be that.

Michelle Williams is not only my fashion icon because of the clothes she wears, but also because of the confidence she emulates while wearing them. Miss Williams has gone through a rough couple of years, but her confidence for who she is and what she likes has not even appeared to have skipped one beat through it all. The way she holds herself in the public eye, with such confidence, grace and poise, is like no other young women of our current time, and for that I greatly admire her.

Before jumping into designing my t-shirt, I searched the internet for a few inspirational photos of Michelle. I found many photos of Michelle wearing these very feminine style, flowy dresses, and also some great menswear inspired outfits. One photo in particular really stood out, though, and I decided to base my design off of it. The photo is picture below and is from the 2010 Golden Globes when Michelle wore this amazing Valentino dress.

To me, the floral screams Michelle's style, so I decided to create a similar look on my t-shirt using tissue paper, needle + thread, and also some ribbon to add a sweet bow touch that I know Michelle would approve of. Each petal and center had to be cut out individual (to give each a unique touch, like the flowers on Michelle's dress), and had to be individually sewn on with so much care (tissue paper is SO delicate and I wanted it to look just perfect!).

I'm really thrilled with how the design turned out, and feel it really represents my fashion icon's style so well! Vegas Trip 2011

This week Scott and I are in Las Vegas for a little vacation trip with my parents. We're staying at a lovely hotel on the strip, and already went and saw our first show (Michael Jackson's The Immortal World Tour). Since Scott has never been to Vegas before, so I plan on showing him all of my favorite spots, indulging in some yummy Illy coffee (favorite, and it's everywhere!), taking lots of photos, and maybe even doing some Christmas shopping if something catches my eye.

Urban Afternoon

Have I ever mentioned how thankful I am to live in an urban area? I love the tiny streets, the history behind the historic buildings and homes, the sweet local businesses (Frances, Smeeks, Short Leash Hot Dogs and The Grow-Op), and all of the amazing coffee shops (of course). I've spent a good part of my life in small towns (think rural Colorado), but I've learned that nothing beats the city. I am a city girl for life.

On Wednesday I had my very last Grad school class of the semester. I was so ready to turn in the 12 page research design paper I had been working on for over a month, and to have no obligations to school work for a few weeks. Before Scott and I headed down to my school, we stopped in downtown Phoenix for a little coffee date and a walk through at a local festival.

At the festival we spotted our favorite Short Leash Hot Dog food truck. Coincidentally Scott was wearing his Short Leash t-shirt, and he felt very in style for the occasion. Scott and I absolutely love Short Leash, and always feel very welcome by Brad and Kat (the sweet owners) when we step up to the truck. If you're local and haven't checked out Short Leash Hot Dogs yet, I highly suggest you do so! I LOVE their veggie dogs, and Scott loves mixing it up with their specials and awesome mix and match toppings.

I recently picked up this fun hat from Jcpenney. I've always admired ladies for wearing this type of hat, and feel it adds something special to an ordinary outfit (not to mention it majorly protects your face from the sun!). Scott might have had to talk me into getting it, but I'm so glad that I did. I feel like it's going to be a great transitional piece throughout the seasons, and will be great for protecting my face from the harsh Arizona sun.

This mustard colored blouse was one of the items I picked up in my first Jane By Design Style Challenge! I'm loving the color, and how easily it can be layered with.

Since I don't have any school obligations today, I will be spending the day Christmas shopping, sipping iced coffee, reading The Hunger Games (I just have to), baking cookies, and spending time with my love.

Have I ever told you how thankful I am for this guy? Well, I very much am! He makes every day brighter around here!

Jane By Design Style Challenge #1

I'm so excited to announce that I am participating in the Jane By Design Style Challenge! I feel very honored to be included in this challenge, and can't wait to share more about it throughout the next month (hopefully, I could be eliminated if I don't have your support!).

In case you haven't heard, Jane By Design is a new show airing January 3rd on ABC Family. The show is centered on a teenage girl, Jane, who is mistaken for an adult and lands at job at Donovan Decker, a hip fashion house. She finds herself trying to balance her life between being a regular high school student, and being an assistant to a high-power executive in the fashion industry. It really sounds like a great show, and I can't wait to watch it when it premiers!

Tuesday a very large box containing the prettiest chest arrived for me! It is full of little odds and ends that are a part of upcoming style challenges, as well as a very awesome mannequin! I can't wait to style up a few outfits on it!

I've already received my first style challenge and it was to take a $50 gift card and go shopping! My only real instruction was to pick out pieces that inspired me, and to be creative with it! I was also asked to make a video showing my haul from my shopping trip. I was provided with a video example (and special sneak peek of Jane By Design) to get me inspired. More Dots

Ok, I might be having a small love affair with polka dots right now. I feel they have such a classic look to them, and I love how they can be layered up with pretty solids. This blouse reminds me of my favorite polka dot dress I had growing up. It definitely had the 101 Dalmatians on it, so I would like to think of this blouse as a more refined version of that dress. Funny to think back to what you wore growing up (I always dressed myself), and see how you still lean toward wearing similar colors, and prints. Some things never change!

Today is my very last day of my first semester in Grad School. Come eight o'clock tonight, I will be one happy lady! I have big plans for gingerbread houses, Christmas lights, holiday baking, reading for fun, trips to amazing cities, and lots of holiday cheer with my guy! Holiday break, here I come!

Winter Dots

This morning Scott and I headed to downtown Mesa for some yummy hot americanos, and to make an attempt to take a few photos. For the last two days the rain hasn't stopped pouring and drizzling away. Don't get me wrong, I'm loving the rain, but it does make it rather tricky to take outfit photos. To all the Seattle personal style bloggers out there, I give you major props!

I'm loving this I HEART Ronson sweater I recently picked up from my local Jcpenney. The polka dots are darling, and it's really cozy. A few years ago I used to be so into pull over sweaters, but have since parted ways with most of them, so I'm loving this one as an replacement.

Perfect rainy day boots? I think so! Paired with cozy socks and they are that much sweeter! I swear, I'm all about being cozy this winter!

Tucked Away

I've always been a fan of finding those tucked away, quite places where you can get away from the city from a minute, and take in the beauty that is nature. On a recent outing Scott and I found this gem of an area tucked away in a quaint neighborhood, and I couldn't help but want to stay a little longer and enjoy this fall like snow globe we were surrounded by.

Lately I've been having fun layering up. I've always been a fan of layering, but during most months in Arizona it's not that practical (ok, but I still do it anyways). I've been really enjoying the chill in the air, and wearing my cozy boot socks. Today is extra chilly out and I plan on bundling up to the best of my ability. I'm thinking I might need a hot drink to keep my hands warm as well!

I recently purchased this darling skirt from The Velvet Bird's shop. I'm loving the quality, the fabric, and the sweet button in the back. I feel like this is a timeless piece that will last forever, and I love, love that it's handmade!

I'm also still loving my Jersy boots from Blowfish Shoes. They are perfect to wear when I need to layer my socks up, and they are extra comfortable.

Today Scott is officially done with the semester, and I still have one final paper to finish up. I've been handling this paper like a marathon and taking it slow, going back and forth to it when I feel like I can focus and be productive. Today is the day thought that I feel I need to finish it up! Maybe afterward we can do something fun to reward ourselves for a semester well done!

With finals among us, Scott and I have been searching for ways to get out of the house, but still be productive with regards to the mounds of school work we have piled around us. So the other day we headed down to Lola Coffee to get some yummy coffee, and spend some time doing homework by the beautiful light they have seeping through the coffee shop windows.

His & hers. He got a hot americano, I got an iced coffee (plus two espresso shots in it). This little outing was just what I needed. I was a tad worried that I would get too distracted with the music they always have playing, but the whole atmosphere ended up really put me in a good mood and I was able to get some work done.

Today I will be putting the petal to the metal again and try to knock out this final paper. I'm ready for some time off, reading for fun, Christmas shopping, and more blogging!

Red & Red

It's Saturday and I'm almost done with my finals! Now, if I can just finish up this ten page research methods paper in a blink of an eye, that would be amazing! I am soooo close to freedom, but yet I feel like it's so far away. I'm the kind of person who obsessing over her school work, and never leaves anything not done. I don't suppose that that's a bad thing, but it does cause extra, unwanted stress. I guess you could say I'm a perfectionist, in a messy kind of way.

Lately I've been really loving the color red. I think it has something to do with being the extra pop of color that I just need during chilly winter days. I've noticed in the blogosphere that I'm not alone in my love affair with red. My sweet friend Vanessa, who I will be seeing in a few weeks when Scott and I visit Las Vegas, admitted her love for the color red on her blog yesterday. She really knows how to rock the color great!

I recently received these Naomi flats from Blowfish Shoes. When my mom saw them for the first time she screamed "Christmas shoes!" I admit, they are pretty Christmasy, and I love that. They are the perfect shade of red, and comfortable to boot! I think I will be wearing them to Scott's works Christmas party this Sunday!

Today I promised myself I would devote a little more time to my final paper, but I would also like to pretend I'm already on holiday break and do something fun as well. I'm thinking a trip to The Coffee Shop, or maybe Lola Coffee to get a yummy drink, and then take a nice walk around the area would do the trick. I think a walk would be a nice de-stresser, and good coffee drink is always ok in my book.

Recently Scott finished up a few handmade lights he was asked to make for the The Grow-Op. Scott used vintage thread spools and turned them into the most beautiful hanging lights. They turned out so well, and last Friday he put them up for display at The Grow-Op.

Scott is selling the vintage spool lights at The Grow-Op. You can by the bundle and have them as a beautiful chandelier, or buy them separately and have a unique, handmade light for your home (or a loved one's). I really am so proud of Scott for making these! He truly has such a great talent!

With the holidays among us, it's the perfect time to check out your local shops for unique Christmas presents for your family and friends. Crafeteria 2011

This past Friday was the 6th annual Crafeteria! Every year I look forward to this one night, amazing craft event, and every year Scott and I have such a great time. This year we headed down to downtown Phoenix early so we could eat dinner at our favorite food truck (Short Leash Dogs!), and afterward we made our way around all of the booths.

This year we saw so many friends, and were also lucky enough to meet a few sweet bloggers as well. Later on in the evening our good friends Courtney and Sanford met up with us, and we all had a great time checking out the craft booths, looking through Smeeks, Frances Studio, and Frances, and also chatting with more sweet friends.

Recently the Frances Studio was turned in a Christmas wonderland and I had such a good time checking out all of the holiday goodies. I wanted each and every ornament there!

Before the night was over we spent some time hanging out with our friend Katherine, and also the newlyweds Ryan and Kara. It sure was a great event, and the turn out was amazing! The booths this year rocked, and I'm a little sad I didn't take the plunge and by something pretty. There is always next year though!

A big thank you goes out to the lady of the hour, miss Georganne Bryant. Georganne is always incredibly sweet to Scott and I, and we are so thankful that she puts on such an amazing event every year. Thank you Georganne! We love you!

Dainty & Studios

The end of the semester is so near that I can taste it! It tastes like a yummy hot americano with a little bit of soy milk and honey in it. Well, that might have been what I was drinking yesterday while finishing up a final online class. I'm telling you though, it was delicious! If I can just have one of those every day until finals are officially over, I will be a happy lady!

It was extra chilly out yesterday, but under all of my layers (which I took off because the sun poked out from behind the clouds and felt so good on my chilly bones) I wanted to wear something pretty and dainty. I'm absolutely loving the dainty details of this I Heart Ronson blouse from Jcpenney. The collar is darling, and the flowy sleeves just feel like me.

Every student needs a great satchel! Wouldn't you agree? This one perfectly fits all of my Grad school notebooks and all of my other purse goodies. I just love a classic bag!

This morning I'm warming up with the very last of my Trader Joe's pumpkin spice coffee. I promised myself I wouldn't by the new Trader Joe's gingerbread coffee until I finished this one, so now I can make a quick trip to TJs to pick some up. I swear, amazing grocery stores are my guilty pleasure. I could stay in them for hours checking out all of the yummy food and coffee!

Sometimes outfits just find me. Yesterday was a very lazy Sunday and I was in one of those "put on anything you can find" kind of moods. It has been extra chilly, so I knew I had to layer up, but I also wanted to give my Ugglebo Clogs another go around to break them in a little more. As you can see, I ended up with a black/brown combo. I've always been a fan of mixing these two colors, and my "found" outfit ended up being just I what I needed. Casual, but cozy.

Scott and I spent a lot of time working on final papers during the day, but we did find some time to take a little walk around downtown Mesa. It was very chilly out, and we were hoping our favorite local coffee shop, Lo-Fi, would be open so we could get a peppermint mocha. Well, the shop ended up being closed, but I still really enjoyed our walk.

I swear, I really love these Victoria clogs. Awhile back someone mention that if I were a shoe, I would be these exact ones. Is it weird to know what kind of shoe you would be if you were a shoe? Nope, I didn't think so!

Today I have a final test to take, and also more time to spend working on final papers. I'm also hoping to break out some of the Christmas cheer and do a fun little activity from our advent calendar. I also really want to make a trip to Trader Joe's, but when don't I want to make a trip there?

Magical December

Last night at Crafeteria was magical. Scott and I ran into so many familiar faces, and had such an amazing time eating veggie dogs, looking at beautiful crafts, and spending time with sweet friends. This morning I've been thinking a lot about last night and the only word that comes to mind is magical. I feel a bit influenced by Elise Blaha's idea of magic, and really hope to run with it through the rest of December. Hear's to a magical month!

Phoenix Layers

It is COLD in Phoenix today! This morning when I went outside I could see my breathe! December is really embracing the cold, and I am totally ok with that. I am also completely ready to embrace this month with open arms, and I'm ready to fully enjoying the holiday cheer. I've even been thinking about getting the She & Him Christmas album, and I don't even like Christmas music!

On Tuesday I had a get together with a few girlfriends at my favorite coffee shop in downtown Phoenix. My good friend Courtney (who has a sweet blog called Phoenix is Haute) was wearing this awesome layered look of a cardigan and a jean vest that she picked up at my favorite store (Levi's, of course). Well I was inspired by Courtney's look, so I decided to recreate it my own way.

I bought this vest my first year in college on super sale. Throughout the years I have gone back and forth with loving it, and recently rediscovered it in my closet when I went through a cleaning spring to find long forgotten sweaters (it's finally sweater season). A few years ago I put a The Format (favorite band in high school) button on it and have not taken it off since. I kind of love pieces like this that you can keep around forever. A jean vest is timeless!

Today I am SO excited because Scott and I are going down to Phoenix to check out our friend Sanford's art on display at Bragg's Pie Factory, and then heading down to Crafteteria! I look forward to this amazing craft show every year and I'm so excited that it's finally here!

La Grande Orange Date

Hello, December!

Over the Thanksgiving holiday Scott and I decided to go on a little lunch date to La Grande Orange. This sweet restaurant is one of our favorites, but sadly we hadn't been there in so long. The atmosphere is always a bit chaotic, but that's the beauty of it. They have the most amazing trinkets for sale, sweet treats, and serve up the best mac and cheese I've ever had!

Scott and I both were really excited for our little lunch date. We were both in need of a break, and settling down with some yummy food was the perfect way to relax and take in the beginning of our mini-holiday break.

I had a delicious veggie sandwich! I was hoping they would have their amazing butternut squash soup, but alas, the soup of the day was white bean chili.

Scott and I shared their famous green chili mac and cheese. I can't eat the chilis, so I eat around them and Scott gets the spicy bites! He's a trooper!

Scott got the tuna sandwich and really enjoyed it!

Before we left I had to get a honey latte. They always have the best coffee, and I just couldn't pass up one of their lattes.

I wish I could describe how delicious this was! It was sweet, but not too sweet. It had the best coffee taste to it, and was just overall perfect (seriously). Over the years I've become less of a latte girl (iced coffee forever), but I really loved this one! I wish I lived closer to LGO so I could have one more often.

Today I have a few errands to do (of course), papers to work on (what's new, right?), and a fun interview to do later this evening with a journalism student from my alma mater.

Yellow Leaves

A have a favorite neighborhood in Tempe. I'm pretty sure it's everyone's favorite because all of the house are unique, and their trees always have their leaves change to the most beautiful colors around this time of year. Every time I drive down one of their streets I can't help but just take in all of this emotion that comes along with fall nostalgia (and now onto those winter thoughts).

When I put on this outfit I felt very studious. Like I should be going to school in England and sipping hot tea and eating scones at Harrods for an afternoon snack (I did this once and it was a dream come true! Can I please do it again?). I love this sweet wrap around skirt with the big buttons, my A Beautiful Mess necklace (Elsie did such an amazing job designing it!), and my cute new satchel I got on super sale from Jcpenney! It's definitely an outfit I would like to repeat!

Now that this semester is winding down I'm in crunch mode. I'm eating, sleeping, breathing homework and worrisome thoughts that I won't finish every project I need to have overcome me (I know I will, but I always worry). Last night Scott and I took some time to just enjoy some yummy coffee and the company of sweet friends. It felt really good just to breathe for a few, and talk about something that doesn't involve school work.

Do you see the leaves falling? It's a miracle! I could have sworn I was in the Pacific Northwest when this was happening!

The leaves in this spot were just truly stunning! Scott and I just couldn't get enough. I would have stayed here all afternoon! There is a sweet coffee shop down the street that I would have loved to pick up a hot latte from and gone on an extra long walk around the rest of the neighborhood.

Thankful Thoughts

Tonight I'm thankful for sweet lady friends who like to get together and enjoy yummy coffee drinks and talk about exciting plans, and who send out lots of inspiration to float around in my mind. I'm also very thankful for my sweet guy who goes with me to doctors appointments, cares for my wounds (small ones on my feet), and drives me around because it hurts too much to push on the peddles of my car.

I have a lot to be thankful for. Thank you sweet friends and amazing boyfriend for making my night!

Red and Black

And the weekend is over! Oh man! It was nice to have such a long break from school, but I guess I'm ready to get back to the grind.

A few days ago I picked up this faux leather jacket from Jcpenney. For years now I have been coveting over one, but never seem to find the most perfect one. Well, fast forward years later and Scott spots this one at our local Jcpenney and says that I NEED it. It's the perfect cut (not too short, and the arms are longer than most leather jackets I have seen), feels great for faux leather, and is extra cute (Scott would say edgy, but If said it he would laugh at me!).

As you can tell the jacket ended up coming home with me and I'm so glad it did. I'm very excited to wear it this winter, and layer it with a few pretty cardigans. I also picked up this red slouchy beret and I'm in love with it! I've been wanting a red hat for ages, and I was happy to find the perfect one. I don't wear the color red often, but I feel like red is my color.

This weekend Scott and I spent some time getting in the holiday spirit. We picked out a new faux Christmas tree (is it weird that I've never had a real Christmas tree?), and a few pretty new ornaments. We also spent some time wandering the aisles of Trader Joe's and World Market, coveting over all of the Christmas goodies and decor.

Did you guys do any Black Friday shopping? Scott and I stopped by Jcpenney to check out all of their good deals! I might have picked up a Call It Spring satchel bag for myself! ECK!

Clogs The Word

This mini-holiday was just what I needed! After taking the past three days off for myself I feel completely refreshed, and ready to take on those final papers! I've also fallen in love with the most amazing tea from Trader Joe's, and I'm getting excited about winter outfits! Tis the season!

Recently I received these adorable Victoria clogs from the sweet folks at Ugglebo Clogs. For years I have been a clogs fan, but this pair takes the cake for being the cutest pair I've ever own (by far).

After wearing my Victorias around in downtown Mesa for a bit I am absolutely in love. The quality of the pair is amazing! From the leather, to the wooden bottoms, it's all quite impressive. There is no doubt that these gorgeous clogs are handmade, and that so much love and care goes into making each clog.

I also love how versatile they are! Being that I live in Phoenix and we almost never get snow here (I swear we did a few years ago!), these are an all-seasons can of clog for me. Next time I wear them I'm excited to pair them with tights and a cute dress. I also love the little heel! Being that I am usually a flats girl, I found no problem walking around in these with ease. They are definitely comfortable, and add a little bit of class to any outfit (who doesn't love a great clog?).

I swear, these are going to be my go-t0 shoe for winter. They do need to be broken in a little bit (as all clogs do), but I see no problem in that happening quickly! I can't wait to wear them again. Also, did you read that they are handmade in Sweden? This Swedish girl is definitely into that!

Fall Path

It's almost Thanksgiving and the trees around here have finally decided that it should really look like fall! Throughout the Phoenix Metropolitan area there are very different landscapes, and in parts of Scottsdale it almost feels like we're in Colorado, or even up in the Pacific Northwest. Scott and I were in the area yesterday, so we decided to go on a little walk and admire all of the beautiful colored leaves before they're all gone!

I'm kind of sad to see all of the fall nostalgia washing away nowadays, but I know the holidays are almost here and I have all winter to enjoy some cooler weather, warm clothes, hot coffee, and most definitely snow.

Lately I've been wearing my Vanilla and Lace blouse so often! I purchased it back in October, and it has quickly become of my favorite garments. Abi of Vanilla and Lace makes some gorgeous pieces, and I now have my eye on one of her pretty dresses! If you've never checked out her shop before, I highly suggest you do so! She has so many pretty garments!

The chilly weather has really come and go lately, but while it has been here I've been having fun bundling up in my new winter coat. It's from Lulus, and is probably the best winter coat I've ever owned. I'm excited to stay warm, and still look fashionable this winter!

Scott and I are both officially on Thanksgiving break today (although, I will probably still work on my final papers)! So many great movies came out recently, so we're thinking that maybe we should check one of them out today. I really want to see The Muppets, and My Week With Marilyn! I also really want to see Like Crazy again as well!

Aren't Scott's red socks cute? He had been looking for a pair for a few weeks now, and we finally found the perfect pair the other evening! He's going to look very festive this holiday season!

Scottsdale Bicycle Ride

You know what I love? A beautiful fall day! You know what I love just as much? Bicycle rides with my guy! A few weekends ago Scott and I went on a bike ride around a gorgeous park in Scottsdale. It was a cool day, and perfect for a little ride around together.

During our ride we found this amazing little bridge. The Phoenix Metropolitan area isn't really known for having many walking bridges, so this seemed like a little hidden gem. After finding it, we knew we couldn't pass up taking a few photos on it.

On this day I was rocking a pair of Roxy Glider skinny jeans. The sweet folks over at Roxy were kind enough to send them to me, and I have to say, they fit like a glove! For years I have been a Levi's only girl when it comes to denim, but these Gliders are giving my Levi's a run for their money. They are so comfy, and the length is perfect! Usually all of my jeans are a little too long (I'm about 5/4 1/2), but these hit my ankles just at the right spot! I'm thinking that maybe for Christmas I would like a darker pair!

This afternoon was honestly picturesque. It's moments like this that make me feel so thankful to be where I am in my life, and to have someone so special close to my heart. I really am such a lucky lady!

Really, though, this guy makes my whole life better. Ok, ok. I'll stop being mushy now!

I have a feeling this beautiful bike riding weather is going to stick around for a bit. Here's to many more bicycle dates this coming season!

November Flare

Is it really Monday already? Oh my! I've gone through the whole weekend with a messed up clock and could have sworn today was Sunday. Oh well! I'm ready to take on a whole new week, but first, I need my coffee!

This weekend I picked up a new pair of jeans at my favorite Levi's store. For years now I have been a skinny legged/leggings kind of girl, but hearing my co-workers (remember, Scott and I are seasonal help there!) I decided to give a pair of Curve IDs a shot. I've been measured for my ID a few times before (if you've never been measured, you should go down to your nearest Levi's store and have them measure you!), so I knew I was a Demi Curve. In the end, I decided to go with the Demi Curve Slight Boot cut jeans in a dark wash. So far I'm really digging them!

To go along with my slight 1970's look, I threw on my new favorite cardigan from Jcpenney. I LOVE the colors in it, and I love how flowy it is.

My unique Taylor Kenney Jewelry was the cherry on top for this outfit. I really felt beautiful in this ensemble, and was happy to be having a great day!

In other news, did you notice that my photos are now slightly larger? The amazing Amy of A is for Ampersand did a little tweeking to my blog design and now I'm able to have larger photos! I am SO thrilled about it, and suggest checking out Amy's blog and leaving her a sweet comment! She also does amazing blog designs and is one talented graphic designer!
